Mobile Setup

ThoughtFree works on any device with a browser. On mobile, you can install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for a native-like experience, or download the Android app from Google Play.

Progressive Web App (PWA)

The PWA works on iOS, Android, and desktop. It gives you a full-screen app experience with home screen access and app shortcuts.

Install on Android (Chrome)

1. Open app.thoughtfree.io in Chrome
2. Tap the menu (three dots) in the top-right
3. Tap Install app or Add to Home screen
4. The app appears on your home screen

Install on iOS (Safari)

1. Open app.thoughtfree.io in Safari
2. Tap the Share button (square with arrow)
3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
4. Tap Add

Install on Desktop (Chrome/Edge)

1. Open app.thoughtfree.io
2. Click the install icon in the address bar
3. Click Install

Google Play (Android)

The ThoughtFree Android app is available on Google Play. It wraps the web app in a native container with:

• Splash screen on launch
• Status bar integration
• App shortcuts (Capture, Today, Record)
• Share target — share text and URLs from other apps directly into ThoughtFree

Search for ThoughtFree on Google Play or visit the store listing directly.

App Shortcuts

Once installed (PWA or Google Play), you get quick-action shortcuts:

• Capture — jump straight to thought capture
• Today — open your Today view
• Record — start voice recording immediately

On Android, long-press the app icon to access these. On desktop PWA, they appear in the app’s title bar menu.

Offline Support

Both the PWA and Android app work offline. Thoughts, voice recordings, and edits are saved locally and sync when you’re back online. See Sync & Offline for details.

Appearance

ThoughtFree adapts to your device with 12 color palettes: Sage, Obsidian, Ivory, Indigo, Sand, Carbon, Rose, Ocean, Moss, Amethyst, Slate, and Ember. Change your palette in Settings > Appearance.
