ThoughtFree offers two plans: Free and Pro. The Free plan covers everyday thought capture, while Pro unlocks advanced AI features, more credits, and the ability to bring your own API key.

Pro costs €7.99/month. Subscriptions are managed through Google Play (on Android) or the web checkout.

Every AI feature — tag generation, research, weekly insights, merges, automations — consumes credits based on the model you choose. Cheap models (e.g. Gemini Flash) cost around 1 credit per typical call; expensive models (e.g. Claude Opus) cost many times more per call. Pick the model that fits the job. Credits reset on the 1st of every month.

Pro users can paste their own OpenRouter API key in Settings → AI Provider. When enabled, AI requests route through your account — you pay OpenRouter directly at their rates, and ThoughtFree credits are not deducted. Everything else the Pro subscription covers (storage, sync, voice transcription, automation pipelines, EPUB/Kindle export, priority support) still applies.

Your current usage is displayed in Settings > Plan with visual meters for:

  • AI Credits — remaining credits this month, plus the reset date
  • Voice Minutes — transcription time used
  • Thoughts — total thoughts captured this period
  • Categories — active categories vs. your plan limit

Meters turn orange at 80% usage and red at 95%. A subtle pulse appears in the navigation when credits drop below 20% remaining.

  1. Go to Settings > Plan
  2. Click Upgrade to Pro
  3. Complete the checkout through the payment provider
  4. Pro features activate immediately

Go to Settings > Plan and click Manage subscription to:

  • View your billing details
  • Cancel or modify your subscription
  • Update payment method
